Plainview-Old Bethpage elementary schools are continuing their Let Grow program, a monthly initiative designed to help students develop independence, try new experiences and take on meaningful responsibilities at home. Each month features a different theme while maintaining the same goal: empowering children to spread their wings and build confidence through new challenges.

At the start of the school year, students were encouraged to try “Get Out of Your Comfort Zone” activities that stretched their abilities and built independence. Activities ranged from learning to ride a two-wheeler to walking to a friend’s house alone or baking a cake independently.

November focused on “Help Out Around the House,” highlighting the importance of students’ contributions to their families. Students were encouraged to identify ways to step up and participate in household responsibilities, such as folding laundry or completing chores, helping them develop critical life skills and see themselves as dependable, active members of their households.

At the end of each month, students decorate paper leaves with the new activities they tried which are then displayed on school-wide bulletin boards so the community can celebrate students’ efforts and growing confidence.
